Course Overview

This course covers the fundamentals of the OpenStack IAAS (Infrastructure As A Service) solution used for creating a private cloud. It starts with a general cloud primer and the main cloud types (IAAS - Infrastructure As A Service, PAAS - Platform As A Service, SAAS - Software As A Service) continuing with the origin, development and main features of OpenStack, its architecture and core building blocks.

An important part of the training is the demonstration of the basic features and operation of an OpenStack system.

Training Objectives

At the end of the training participants:

  • • Understand the basic concepts of cloud computing and the main cloud service types: IAAS (Infrastructure As A Service), PAAS (Platform As A Service) and SAAS (Software As A Service).
  • • Know the origin, history and main features of OpenStack.
  • • Understand the architecture of OpenStack and the role of its core building blocks: the controller node, the Nova compute node and the Neutron network node.
  • • Get familiar with further OpenStack services such as Ceilometer for metering resource usage, Heat for cloud orchestration and the Swift object store.
  • • See the basic features and the daily operation of an OpenStack private cloud in the demonstration of the instructor.
